Self Confessed Soccer Mom

Yep, I drive a mini-van, which I refer to as the BatVan. It makes it sound cooler, don't you think? But if we were to be honest with each other... Bruce Wayne has nothing to do with my family or vehicle. Sad isn't it? But this year we are actively involved in our daughter's soccer team. So involved I am the coach. I'm not sure which is scarier.... 10 three and four year olds outnumbering me, or the fact that those 10 three and four year olds look to be for guidance? I'll let you pick.

Either way, we are very proud of our daughter as she gets better at the game and with teamwork. And of course I'm also proud of all of her teammates. We have reached the half way point of the soccer season and have only 4 more games to go. Part of me is thrilled that I'll get my Saturdays back, but another part of me is enjoying all of this. I look forward to practice and games.

Guess we may have to consider the spring soccer season? Wonder if her team and the parents are up for another round in March or April?

*These pictures were taken by Jerry's grandmother... aren't they great?*

Texas Tornadoes- Game 4

After missing last weeks game to spend the weekend in Kansas I was glad to come back and resume our soccer season. The weather today had a forecast for rain and I'm glad to say that it didn't interrupt our game and waited until after lunch. So with the cool breeze and dark clouds overhead, we persevered and won our 4th game against the Olympians (pictured in red).

We were sadly down a few members who were out sick- Brody, Rado, and Logan. But that meant the rest of the players got lots of time on the field.

I did get an opportunity to take score this time and the Tornadoes won 7 to 4 against the Olympians. Individual scores as shown below:
Jerry: 4 goals and 1 assist.
Hunter: 1 assist and 1 goal (for the other team)
Taylor: 1 goal
Brenden: 2 goals and 1 goal (for the other team).
The Olympian's scored 2 goals themselves and if you add the two we gave them by scoring in the net it adds to a total of 4.

Looking forward to next week to keep the streak going!

My Son & Shoes

If given the choice I would show up to work everyday without socks or shoes. They are the first thing I take off when I get home. Sometimes I don't even wait till home and I take them off once I get in the car. Shoes are something I wear only when required- like mowing the lawn and going into stores, work, restaurants. The rest of the time.... I'm barefoot.

So my son's new shoe obsession is nothing I can claim responsibility for. Doesn't matter whose shoes he finds, he immediately goes to put them on his feet.

I guess the plus side of this is that I'll never have to fight him to wear shoes in the morning for school, church or something.

Savage Shindig

On Saturday, September 21st our family was glad to celebrate the marriage of Kayla Oney to John Savage, whom Sophie has been calling "Uncle John" for a couple years now regardless.

Family is important and it begins with marriage. Once you become husband and wife you become a new family unit.

With children that family unit grows.... and talks back, and complains, and cuddles with you... I digress.

"Uncle John" and Kayla have been together for a long time and we were glad to see them united in marriage with a beautiful rustic country wedding. It was gorgeous and so perfect for their outdoor interests. John even went duck hunting the morning of his wedding day.

We were grateful to be a part of it! And Kayla & John we are glad you are part of our family! Wedding blessings upon you both.

Now if you ever want to take parenting for a test drive.... I can lend you two models- boy or girl. No charge.

Transform into a Princess

All girls are princesses, but sometimes we don't feel like princesses. For those times you don't quite feel regal, Sophie has some tips to help the transformation along.

1. Pick a great princess name, her suggestions include Rupunzel, Jasmine, and Ariel.

2. Get pampered. Sophie's preference, a beautiful manicure of pink nails.

My preference is for a pedicure. Nothing like someone rubbing my feet.

3. Next you need to have someone do your hair. Sophie's preference is for long flowing curly locks.

4. Then you need an outfit that sparkles like how you feel or want to feel. Sophie suggests anything that glitters. Again her preference is for a dress.

5. Then remember how wonderful you are.
