Mount Lemmon is the highest peak in the Catalina Mountains. And from the base to the peak you get incredible views and a varied landscape. Prior to reaching the 9157 feet peak, you'll begin by watching the desert climb up the mountain with you with large cactus covered cliffs.
Then eventually deciduous and conifer trees will replace the cacti.
And higher up, lies snow. When we were there, there was probably 2-3 inches on the ground.
At 8,000 feet elevation lies the perfect, best city in Arizona, nestled high up in the mountain- Summerhaven. I could live here. Brian is less certain since there is no gas station nearby (last gas station is a mile from the base of the mountain), a long possibly tretcherous drive up and down, and probably has terrible television and internet reception. Me, I'm less realistic and would love to live here despite his concerns.
The kids enjoyed the snow and before we left Sophie insisted that we had to build a snowman.... or snowwoman to be specific. It had to be a girl snowman. So Brian helped her make a snowman, albeit a small one.
And we all enjoyed the Cookie Cabin!
This beautiful place is a well hidden secret, but it was worth the drive... even if it did take awhile to reach our destination.
