"In an abundance of caution, as a result of forecasts from the National Weather Service, Dallas ISD will not hold classes tomorrow Friday, December 6 and all events and activities on Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7 are cancelled. All administrative offices and schools will be closed. Essential personnel, including pre-identified maintenance and police employees will report to work."

It's my first official snow day as a teacher!

"No more pencils. No more books. No more students' dirty looks!"

As a kid it was always exciting to get school off for a snow day. But as a kid my 'snow days' were spent doing chores inside, or shoved outside to play or shovel the snow. As an adult, I can do what ever I want today and still get paid! Best day EVER! Especially when you work in an overcrowded, understaffed, innercity school of miscreants.

The funny part about today is that had we been living in Kansas we wouldn't have gotten the day off. No matter than there is a quarter of an inch of ice on the ground. Kansas would have had the salt trucks out hours prior to the sleet and it likely would have melted in time for school in the morning. But in Texas, where I wonder if they even have salt trucks or road salt, it remains icy and will remain icy until we get above freezing on Sunday afternoon.

For those of you in the DFW area, drive safe and enjoy the weather! All the surrounding cities have practically shut down for the weekend!
