After being awake for over 36 hours, taken a hike, and a cruise, you'd think we would be done for the day. But we persevered and had 1 more adventure planned for the day with a friend.
We returned to Anchorage to pick up Corrie and camping gear. Corrie would be joining us for the remainder of the trip. Or perhaps I should say we would be joining Corrie for the remainder of the trip- considering this trip was mostly centered on her friends and family gathering in Alaska to celebrate her upcoming wedding.
Our next adventure was to the Matanuska Glacier off of the Glenn Highway.
We didn't hike to it, but mostly it was a nice opportunity to get out of the car and stretch out legs a bit. And what better place when you can have a beautiful view nearby.
See the moose?
By the end of day 1, Brian and I were exhausted. We had spent about 4 hours on a boat, over 8 hours in a car, and around 12 hours on an airplane.
Facts about the Matanuska Glacier
* It is 26 miles long and 4 miles wide
* It is called a valley glacier because it doesn't empty into the sea, instead it will flow like a river using it's own weight.
* There are iceworms, which were discovered to exist on the Matanuska Glacier
* Considered one of the oldest glaciers in Alaska
