Visiting Fritz Park in Irving

I'm always looking for something free or cheap that my kids can do that involves education and/or physical exercise during the summer. I discovered on a blog post about a free petting zoo located in Irving that is open only during the months of June and July.

In addition to having TONS of hand sanitizer, they also had goats...

... a rooster that likes being held....

... a peacock named Xavier...

... a very soft bunny....

... a donkey who was picky (only wants touched on his stripe)...

.. a turkey, 2 geese, a horse who was "on break"....,

...and a cow.

It was well shaded which definitely helped in this July heat. And there were plenty of picnic tables under trees where we stopped to enjoy lunch.

In addition to the animals, they had a crayola station with coloring books for the kids to take home (or color there with their crayons) and chalk for the sidewalk.

Definitely worth a visit. I'd plan to spend perhaps an hour there if you stop for lunch. Otherwise it's a fairly small establishment. But they do try with lots of "hands on" opportunities with the animals for kids, the coloring, and the sidewalk chalk. Plus it is located in Fritz Park, so there might be more things to do within the park that we did not explore while we were there. Either way, the kids had fun with this free activity!
